Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is the central ligament of the knee, which stabilises the joint especially in pivoting movements.
ACL can be torn following an injury ranging from a trivial fall during sporting activities or road accidents etc. Knee pain and swelling following an ACL injury usually settles down in a week, but the knee might feel unstable with an uncomfortable feeling especially in slippery or uneven surface or during activities. Every time the knee slips there is a risk of damaging other normal structures in the knee including meniscus and cartilage.
