Ganglion Cyst and Mucoid Degeneration

Ganglion cyst is a harmless jelly-like fluid swelling. It can be present in the knee joint, commonly around the ACL. The ACL substance sometimes swells up due to degeneration, and it is called mucoid degeneration & the same can be seen even in the meniscus. It’s commonly reported through radiological findings in MRI. It rarely can be troublesome in restricting knee bending or straightening; sometimes, there can be pain while standing or during sleep.

If troublesome, following techniques may be employed:

  • Arthroscopic debridement of ACL.
  • Arthroscopic ACL reconstruction.
  • Arthroscopic bony notchplasty.

The above treatment methods will be appropriate for an individual depending on multiple factors that the Knee Specialist would then evaluate at Ortho-One.
